I have memories from such an early age that I honestly don’t trust they are memories and not recreations from stories I’ve been told. I lived in Italy when I was two years old. I remember the earthquake of 74. I remember the window of the bathroom I hung out of until my dad could unlock the door. I remember our first dog Prince, a dalmatian who fled out the second story window after pooping on the brand new carpet, never to be seen again. I remember the shower curtain I climbed that lead to the scar on my forehead, and the bottle of flinstones vitamins I ate. I remember a statue at the bottom of a lake, and the glass blower we visited in Venice. I have no rhyme or reason to help me order these potential memories, and no idea at all how to confirm they are real.

Lost in a world I don’t understand. Sometimes, I think I don’t know who I am. I know that I was once a man, with hopes and faded, threadbare dreams. But then, I broke. And out of shattered pieces flowing, all the torturous knowing, rid of peace and past and pointless living, I found a hope for life worth giving, then lost it all, in a wretched busted burst of color. All went red in the moment I lost her. I slept in a bed of padded floor, with padded walls, and padded door. Until I failed to care anymore. Until the hurt was all I bore. I fought back out, into the darkness. Clawed my life apart. Destroyed it all until nothing was left of who I was or what I wanted. Every thought of past excised. Every shred of history despised.

I swear there was going to be more, but … why is that squirrel so shiny?
